WinZO elevates gaming experience with insights from New Relic

Backed by top venture capitalists including gaming funds like Maker’s Fund, Courtside Ventures, and Griffin Gaming Partners, WinZO was launched in 2018 and has become India’s largest interactive entertainment platform. With a portfolio of over 100 games, the platform offers a personalized multiplayer experience in 14 languages, including English, Hindi, and Marathi. It boasts over 200 million registered users who collectively engage in more than five billion game plays each month.

Innovation through observability

According to the India Gaming Report 2024, the Indian online gaming market is leading globally with 600 million users and is expected to be valued at US$6 billion by 2028. Building a platform that serves the diverse gaming needs of this vast, growing market required WinZO to build robust technology infrastructure to support multiple, interconnected services. It also necessitated real-time, end-to-end visibility into its infrastructure. That’s why very early in its startup journey WinZO partnered with New Relic to adopt application performance monitoring (APM). This marked a pivotal step toward building a culture of observability at the business. The insights gleaned since adopting New Relic have allowed WinZO to significantly reduce its reliance on manual monitoring, enabling its team to spend more time innovating. This approach enabled WinZO to add six innovative formats like WinZO Mania, World War, Tournament, Fantasy Sports, and PlayerExchange to its suite.

The observability provided by New Relic allowed WinZO to have comprehensive visibility into performance metrics such as session length, daily or monthly active users, retention and user satisfaction, enabling the company to effectively enhance the performance of its app. In addition, monitoring traffic, error rates, and CPU usage via the one unified platform has contributed towards more streamlined operations and an improved user experience.

Custom dashboards for tailored insights and visibility

Through leveraging New Relic dashboards, WinZO engineers and business teams track both game-specific metrics and overall platform performance; ensuring a seamless experience across its user base. The dashboards aggregate key metrics across all games, providing a holistic view of platform health. By correlating game-specific data with overarching metrics, WinZO can make data-driven decisions, optimize resource allocation, and maintain high performance across the entire gaming ecosystem.

In addition, by setting up custom dashboards for each game, WinZO can monitor unique metrics specific to popular titles like “Carrom”, “Bubble Shooter” or “Fruit Samurai”. These dashboards allow the team to constantly work with their partner game developers to improve the gameplay experience. The team is able to uncover the issues a user has faced, and debug these at the level of gameplay.

Empowering expansion with real-time insights

WinZO’s microservices-based architecture supports real-time multiplayer matching, enabling users to find and join games quickly with those who are online. WinZO has benefited from New Relic infrastructure monitoring, which allows for a consolidated view of its complex infrastructure. It has facilitated quicker, data-driven decisions on resource allocation during high-traffic events like the Indian Premier League. This centralized visibility has improved user journey optimization, reduced latency, and increased overall productivity.

New Relic has been instrumental in WinZO’s expansion efforts by providing crucial insights into user onboarding, API performance, and third-party systems. Real-time issue diagnosis and resolution capabilities have significantly enhanced player experience and game stability. The insights gleaned from New Relic will continue to support WinZO’s expansion into the $US300 billion global gaming market, starting with Brazil.
