New Relic Appoints Square CFO Sarah Friar to its Board of Directors

Company Also Names Robin Schulman as General Counsel

San Francisco - January 8, 2014

New Relic today announced that Sarah Friar, Chief Financial Officer and Operations Lead at Square, has joined the software analytics company’s Board of Directors.

As CFO of Square and having held roles at salesforce.com, Goldman Sachs and McKinsey & Company, Friar brings her depth of experience in financial and technology leadership to a board that includes New Relic CEO Lew Cirne, Peter Fenton of Benchmark Capital (chairman), Dan Scholnick of Trinity Ventures and Peter Currie of Currie Capital.

As the pioneer in the Software Analytics category and recognized market leader in Application Performance Management, New Relic has more than 70,000 active accounts globally and is poised for explosive growth in 2014. Friar’s addition will support the board in its mission to sustain that growth long-term and to build a top-10 cloud software company.

“Sarah’s particular expertise aligns brilliantly with our core business,” said Cirne, New Relic founder and CEO. “Sarah’s experience with other product-first companies is highly relevant to New Relic’s commitment to delivering the most useful and innovative tools available for the people who build and run modern software. Having led the Finance and Strategy group at salesforce.com, one of the premier enterprise and SaaS software companies, she brings first-hand experience in helping a disruptor evolve into an established market leader.”

At Square, Friar has been instrumental in driving the company on its mission to make commerce easy for everyone by offering simple tools for business of all sizes to start, run and grow. Begun as a free credit card reader for the iPhone, Square now offers a full suite of hardware and software tools for consumers and businesses.

“New Relic’s rapid growth is driven by enthusiastic users delighted by the company’s products,” said Friar. “Joining New Relic’s board was a natural fit. Lew’s passion for delivering excellent products and building a top-10 cloud software company is palpable and I’m honored to be able to serve on its board and help make this vision a reality.”

New Relic also announced today that Robin Schulman has joined the company as General Counsel. Schulman served as Legal Counsel at Adobe Systems for the past three-and-a-half years and also lectures as an Intellectual Property Course Instructor at Santa Clara University’s Law program.

Last month, New Relic announced that Hilarie Koplow-McAdams joined the company as its first-ever chief revenue officer.
“With the addition of Sarah to our board, Hilarie as CRO and Robin as General Counsel, I am proud to add experienced all-stars to an already stellar leadership team,” Cirne added.
