We are excited to announce new capabilities designed to simplify and accelerate data discovery and analysis across your entire environment. These innovations - New Relic Lens, New Relic Notebooks, and Direct Entity & Relationship Querying, now in preview—establish a unified platform for analysis. This makes it easier than ever to connect a customer's observability data directly to their business outcomes and transform that data into actionable insights.
This suite of new capabilities directly addresses the common challenges of data complexity and fragmented data silos. By simplifying the querying and exploration process, we are effectively eliminating the need for users to construct complex, time-consuming filters. This dramatically lowers the learning curve for new and existing users alike, enabling a broader set of stakeholders—from developers and SREs to business analysts—to quickly and independently gain the contextual understanding they need to assure business outcomes.
New Relic Lens
Connect your external data sources and query them using SQL - all without ingestion fees
About New Relic Lens
Customers are increasingly looking to connect observability with business outcomes. For example, understanding the business impact of application performance issues or errors or the costs/margin associated with a product or feature. To answer these questions and connect 011y with the business, you need to combine your 011y data with data that lives in other systems such as Salesforce, Snowflake, or in-house SQL databases.
Customers are reluctant or unwilling to pay to store this data in multiple places and a timeseries database is not always well-suited for non-telemetry data. You can drive revenue, unlock more business value, enable customers to better drive business outcomes, and expand to additional personas within organizations by offering the ability to combine 011y data with business data that lives outside New Relic.
New Relic Lens allows users to connect and query multiple external data sources like Snowflake and Google Sheets using SQL all from within the New Relic UI. Users can combine, analyze and correlate telemetry and non-telemetry (business) data using sophisticated cross-database joins without ingesting the external data - saving on ingest and computational (query) costs.
New Relic Notebooks
Create and share structured documents that combine queries, visualizations and text
About Notebooks
Notebooks are designed to facilitate collaborative data analysis and storytelling. They allow users to combine queries, visualizations, and explanatory text in a shareable, saved document format. This capability is essential for post-incident reviews, root cause analysis documentation, and operational reporting, ensuring knowledge transfer is efficient and repeatable.
Structured Documentation: Create structured documents with individual blocks for queries, visualizations, and text, documenting your investigation process.
Collaboration & Sharing: Easily share and collaborate on investigations and research.
Dynamic Runbook Creation: Reuse investigations, queries and link them to alerts to create dynamic runbooks.
Streamlined Troubleshooting: Facilitates sequential queries for root-cause analysis and post-mortem documentation.
Context Preservation: Save all queries and research for long/complex investigations in one place, eliminating scattered tabs.
Direct Entity & Relationship Querying in NRDB using NRQL
Combine and query entity and relationship data with telemetry data in NRDB using NRQL
About E&R Querying
Previously, entity, relationship, and telemetry data were fragmented across different data stores. This fragmentation made it challenging to perform even basic queries, requiring complex joins and increasing the time and effort needed to gain insights. Now, with the ability to join and query entity and relationship data with telemetry data in NRDB using NRQL, data access and insights are simplified and readily accessible.
Summary
New Relic's Data Discovery and Analysis capabilities— Lens, Notebooks, and Direct E&R Querying—create a unified experience for turning data into action. It enables Intuitive Discovery via natural language, allows you to Query Without Ingestion using standard SQL (Lens), provides a platform for Structured Documentation and collaboration (Notebooks), and offers Unified Data Access to entities and telemetry (E&R Querying). This powerful combination simplifies complex investigations, accelerates troubleshooting, and drives better business outcomes by providing a single, comprehensive view of your entire environment.
