New White Paper Details How Enterprise IT Teams Risk Falling Behind in Managing App Performance

In the cloud era, application sprawl can lead to reduced visibility into performance and availability

San Francisco - 2012年 1月 25日

New Relic, Inc., the SaaS-based cloud application performance management provider, introduced a new white paper today that details how factors like cloud computing, the explosion of mobile devices and the rise of rapid, do-it-yourself application development and deployment are creating application sprawl and new pressures on app performance for enterprises. According to the paper, a new way forward in web application management is needed if organizations are to keep pace with development and maintain their competitive advantage.

"Small teams today can build, manage, and deploy a large-scale web application, sometimes with little or no support from their corporate IT department," said Chris Cook, president and COO at New Relic. "But it's hard to get visibility into performance when apps are constantly changing, being written across multiple languages and frameworks, and are deployed across physical, virtualized, and cloud environments. The old traditional on-premise performance management solutions just don't work in this new era."

"With changes in both the way applications are developed and deployed there is an ever increasing complexity, but also unprecedented agility," said Jonah Kowall, research director at Gartner, Inc. "Enterprises need to deploy tools which are easily implemented, maintained, and provide business value. The cloud is driving many of these new approaches to IT management, which provide visibility while still being adaptable to keep pace with the rapid pace of change."

According to the paper, studies have shown that rapid application deployment can have sustaining benefits such as improved employee morale and productivity. Additionally, today's business landscape demands agile responses to changing market conditions in order to stay competitive. The paper discusses how next-generation, SaaS application performance management (APM) tools can help large organizations collaboratively manage application performance and meet stringent goals for application health and availability without sacrificing the speed and advantages of agile development.
