New Relic Named One of 10 IT Management Start-Ups to Watch by Network World

San Francisco - 5 novembre 2008

New Relic, provider of RPM™, the leading production performance monitoring tool for Rails applications, was named one of the 10 IT Management Start-Ups to Watch for 2008 by Network World. New Relic’s RPM was cited as a key tool for IT professionals who want to "do more work with fewer resources and streamline operational processes." Network World is the premier provider of information, intelligence and insight for network and IT executives.

Led by a team with proven experience solving enterprise performance management problems, New Relic is fast becoming the industry standard for Ruby on Rails applications. "New Relic is doing for Ruby apps what Wily did for Java apps, but with a twist. They are doing it from a cloud perspective," said Cameron Haight, research vice president at Gartner, as quoted in the Network World article. "Data from plug-ins on Ruby applications flows to them and they present it in a portal, which gives the company a lot of insight into this application type that hasn’t seen much play in the enterprise yet."

Only 10 months after New Relic was founded, and 5 months after its product launch, more than 850 companies and developers are using RPM to monitor their production web applications. Subscribers include 37signals, iOffer, OurStage, Getty Images, and Shopify. New Relic partners include Engine Yard and Pivotal Labs.

"As more enterprises adopt Rails as a serious web business platform, IT professionals and developers need performance management to help them scale," said New Relic CEO Lew Cirne. "RPM has already helped companies like 37signals speed key action performance by 50 percent. Enterprises are looking to RPM to help them achieve similar results."

New Relic RPM has become the leading tool for monitoring production Rails application performance. With RPM, operations teams can see things like slowest controller actions, busiest and slowest ActiveRecord operations, page volumes, and missing indices. They can compare today’s performance with yesterday’s and drill down to get meaningful insights into application performance, isolating problems down to the minute they occur. RPM displays automatic breakdowns of such controller response times as ActiveRecord, memcache, and rendering. Overall application hotspots appear in a single view.
