New Relic is delighted to announce that we have signed the EU AI Pact.
New Relic has joined over 100 companies as a signatory of the EU AI Pact. We are the only observability company to be included on the list of signatories. In doing so, we have committed ourselves to applying the principles of the EU AI Act prior to its entry into application.
The EU AI Pact is designed to align with the EU AI Act.
The EU AI Act is the world’s first comprehensive legal framework for artificial intelligence (AI), and it aims to ensure that the deployment of AI is safe, trustworthy, and transparent. It does this by providing harmonized risk-based rules for placing AI systems on the market within the EU - especially with regard to obligations governing their use.
These risk based rules ensure that the highest levels of scrutiny apply to those systems that pose the greatest risk to fundamental rights, including those affecting human rights or public safety, while allowing for less supervision over systems with lower risk.
The Act entered into force on August 1, 2025 with a phased implementation over 3 years. The majority of provisions will become applicable by August 2026.
The EU AI Pact was developed by the EU Commission to encourage organizations which use and develop AI to adopt and adhere to core principles of the AI Act prior to its full entry into application. These core principles of the Pact include requirements for organizations to: develop an AI Governance strategy; map uses of AI systems that may be considered high risk under the Act; and promote AI literacy amongst their work force.
At New Relic, we are already committed to implementing a robust AI governance process in line with our AI Principles. New Relic’s AI team includes multiple cross functional stakeholders who are subject matter experts in their respective fields.
As our General Counsel, Ari Lee, explains in her New Relic Observer article, New Relic has already adapted data privacy for the arrival of AI. This was accomplished by establishing workable processes and standards for the responsible use and development of AI tools, and by incorporating the principles of privacy by design. This ensures that good privacy protections are built into new customer-facing features from the very beginning, as well as creating requirements and processes for our own internal AI use, innovation, and governance. Particular attention is given to the risk level associated with the use of an AI system- and the type or classification of data involved- particularly around how that data will be processed, and the implementation of appropriate policies and procedures commensurate with the level of risk.
Additionally, New Relic has also obtained ISO/ IEC 42001 certification in the role of an AI developer and AI provider. This achievement reflects our commitment to developing, deploying, and providing AI features both responsibly and ethically.
ISO/IEC 42001 is the world’s first artificial intelligence (AI) management system standard, providing valuable guidance for the rapidly changing field of AI technology. It addresses the unique challenges that AI poses, such as ethical considerations, transparency, and continuous learning, and is a globally recognized standard for the establishment and certification of an artificial intelligence management system (AIMS). In order to achieve the certification, a company must show it has a systematic and ongoing approach to managing sensitive company and customer information. New Relic is now recognized as fully compliant with the global AIMS standard and has also established a formal program to maintain the certification.
By signing up to the EU AI Pact and achieving ISO/IEC 42001 certification, New Relic has further demonstrated our commitment to responsible use and development of AI, and we look forward to building on this commitment with a compliant and evolving AI strategy - tailored so that we can meet our promise to our customers where it concerns the provision of New Relic AI.
