Cloud costs are growing more complex, but the way many organizations manage them has not kept pace. Engineering teams are expected to move fast. Finance and FinOps teams are expected to control spend. Product leaders are expected to balance innovation with efficiency. Yet too often, each group is working from a different view of cloud cost data. The result is familiar: overspend, delayed response to anomalies, weak accountability, and cloud decisions that are disconnected from business priorities. That is why we built New Relic Cloud Cost Intelligence.

Today, we’re announcing that New Relic Cloud Cost Intelligence is generally available on April 28, 2026. Cloud Cost Intelligence extends New Relic’s Intelligent Observability platform with real-time cloud cost visibility and cost-aware decision support, helping teams understand where spend is going, what is driving it, and where they can take action.

Why now?

Cloud cost management is no longer just a finance problem. It is an engineering, operations, and business problem, too. Organizations are under increasing pressure to shift from cloud growth to cloud efficiency. It is no longer enough to review billing data after the fact. Teams need to understand spending in context: by service, workload, team, and business priority. Without unified cost intelligence, organizations struggle to align cloud investments with business outcomes, leading to wasted resources, budget overruns, slower decision-making, and missed optimization opportunities.

The urgency is reflected in the market. Cloud Cost management market was estimated to be $13.5 billion in 2024, and expected to grow to $23.3 billion by 2029, while global cloud spending reached $781.7 billion in 2024. It also points to New Relic’s own internal FinOps results: efficiencies contributing 2-3% of bottom line 108 engineering teams in FY25.

Who needs Cloud Cost Intelligence?

Cloud Cost Intelligence is built for the teams that influence cloud spend every day.

  • Engineering and platform teams need to understand where spend is rising, how costs map to workloads and applications, and where they can improve efficiency.
  • FinOps and finance teams need stronger visibility, better attribution, budget awareness, and more proactive governance.
  • Product and business stakeholders need to connect cloud investments to business priorities, growth, and outcomes.

If those teams are making cloud decisions in silos, Cloud Cost Intelligence is designed to give them a shared source of truth.

What Cloud Cost Intelligence does

Cloud Cost Intelligence helps teams make cloud costs visible, actionable, and accountable in one integrated experience. It brings cloud cost data into the same platform teams already use to monitor performance and reliability, helping them estimate, monitor, and optimize cloud and Kubernetes costs directly within their observability workflows.

With Cloud Cost Intelligence, teams can:

  • Spot cloud cost drivers earlier with visibility into trends, changes, and drivers across cloud and Kubernetes environments.
  • Strengthen accountability across teams by tying cloud costs to services, teams, and business context.
  • Prevent overspend with proactive budget controls and faster response to threshold breaches.
  • Act faster on cloud cost insights with NRQL, dashboards, alerts, and workflows for multi-cloud analysis.
  • Reduce waste with telemetry-backed recommendations that help engineers identify right-sizing and savings opportunities with more confidence.
  • Understand AI spend with greater clarity through visibility into token economics, model usage, and model comparisons.

How it works

Cloud Cost Intelligence addresses the challenge of cloud cost management in five key ways.

  • Make cloud costs visible, actionable, and aligned to the business. Teams get a clearer view of cloud cost trends, drivers, and impacts so they can make smarter spending decisions and improve efficiency.
  • Turn cost data into action with custom analysis and proactive response. Teams can use NRQL, dashboards, alerts, and workflows to analyze multi-cloud cost data, investigate spikes, and respond faster to unexpected changes.
  • Connect cost and telemetry in one integrated experience. Because Cloud Cost Intelligence is built into New Relic’s Intelligent Observability platform, teams can evaluate spend in the same place they already manage performance and reliability.
  • Give every stakeholder a shared view of cloud cost accountability. Engineering, finance, product, and other stakeholders can work from the same cost data to improve accountability and collaboration.
  • Understand and manage AI spend with greater confidence. Teams can monitor token economics, model comparisons, and model usage alongside broader cloud cost data, helping them make better decisions about AI investments.

What makes it different

Many cost-management tools can show billing data. Cloud Cost Intelligence is designed to go further by connecting cloud spend to real operational context inside New Relic.

Cloud Cost Intelligence is an observability-native FinOps solution. Unlike tools that rely on isolated billing insights or separate financial workflows, CCI brings telemetry-based cost insights into the same platform teams already use for observability. That means teams can analyze spend in context, not in isolation.

The customer feedback that follows highlights what makes Cloud Cost Intelligence stand out: telemetry-backed cost visibility helps teams move faster from insight to action. Instead of waiting on lagging billing data, teams can monitor changes in real time, build the views they need, and catch anomalies sooner. It also shows the value of bringing cost data into the same platform teams already use, rather than relying on disconnected internal tools or separate reporting workflows.

New Relic Cloud Cost Intelligence delivers the real-time cost tracking and estimation we need. As specialists in video distribution, it is vital that we have real-time updates on our monthly cloud spend. Thanks to New Relic Cloud Cost Intelligence and dashboards, we have been able to build custom visualizations and have replaced an internal AWS reporting tool, enabling us to reduce costs and view data in one place.

Unlike other vendors, which only show cumulative monthly costs, Cloud Cost Intelligence’s telemetry-based updates eliminate billing lag and let us visualize daily usage costs in real time, which is exactly what we need to monitor our AWS spend and instantly catch anomalies.

CCI’s telemetry-backed recommendations build on that same advantage. By grounding recommendations in actual infrastructure usage, patterns, and seasonality, Cloud Cost Intelligence helps engineering teams identify right-sizing and saving opportunities they can trust and act on faster.

What’s new with Cloud Cost Intelligence - from Preview to GA

Cloud Cost Intelligence brings together the core capabilities teams need to better understand, manage, and optimize cloud spend where you can:

  • See cloud costs across more of your environment with cloud cost visibility across AWS, Azure, GCP, and Kubernetes.
  • Create stronger accountability for cloud spend with cost attribution across teams, services, and resources.
  • Stay ahead of overspend with proactive controls through budgets and threshold-based alerts.
  • Reduce waste faster with telemetry-backed recommendations that help teams identify optimization opportunities with more context and confidence.
  • Bring AI spend into clearer focus with visibility into token economics, model usage, and model comparisons alongside broader cloud cost data.

Getting started

Cloud cost decisions should not be disconnected from the systems and services that create those costs. Cloud Cost Intelligence helps teams connect spend to performance, reduce waste, improve accountability, and make smarter cloud decisions in one observability-native workflow.
