The Cloud Is Real: New Relic Now Provides Application Management for More Than 1,000 Customers Deployed in Public or Private Clouds
Milestone demonstrates healthy migration of web applications from dedicated hardware to virtualized environments; New Relic also serves more than 2000 other customers deployed in traditional datacenters.
New Relic, Inc., the leading software-as-a-service provider of application performance management solutions, today announced that it is managing applications in public or private cloud environments for more than 1,000 customer accounts. When combined with the number of organizations using New Relic in traditional datacenters, this brings New Relic’s total account base to over 3,000. New Relic’s flagship product, RPM, enables developers and operations teams managing Java or Ruby applications to monitor, troubleshoot and optimize their applications whether they are deployed in traditional datacenters or in cloud computing infrastructures.
The company’s total customer base has more than tripled this year, while the number of cloud customers has more than quadrupled. This remarkable growth over the last year underscores the impact that cloud computing is having on IT organizations around the world, as they move to take advantage of the flexibility, efficiency, and cost-savings benefits of deploying and maintaining applications in virtualized environments.
"Application deployments on public and private cloud infrastructures are clearly on the rise as more IT and development organizations seek flexible alternatives to traditional tools and methodologies," said Amy Wohl, author of "Succeeding at SaaS: Computing in the Cloud" and noted IT analyst with Wohl Associates. "Over the least year we have seen strong growth in PaaS, IaaS, and SaaS offerings in response to healthy demand; we expect this trend to continue to the point where cloud computing becomes one of the standard deployment and hosting platforms used by modern IT organizations. In fact, a major part of Version 2.0 of my book, coming out in January, is about the expansion of the cloud."
The growth of New Relic’s customer base caps an extraordinary year in which the company achieved several additional milestones including:
- The release of three versions of RPM, its market-leading SaaS application performance management tool
- Support for management of Java web applications
- Introduction of the industry’s first on-demand, hourly billing option
- Significant partnerships with leading PaaS and IaaS providers including Amazon Web Services, Engine Yard, RightScale and Heroku
- Ten-fold growth in its Affiliate program
- Emergence as the APM market leader for the Ruby on Rails platform
"Over the past year, it's become clear that companies have moved far beyond sandbox testing in the cloud. We sign new customers every day who are deploying their critical production applications in public or private cloud environments," said New Relic CEO Lew Cirne. "This steady migration to the cloud and to SaaS-based tools provides greater agility and significantly lower costs. New Relic RPM plays an essential role in this movement because it can help application owners to reduce risk and shorten the development-to-production cycle for web applications, while maintaining high performance. By providing deep, live visibility into application performance, immediate post-deployment feedback, and the information needed to rapidly spot and remediate issues before they affect customers, New Relic allows developers, IT and business stakeholders to embrace rather than resist change."
