Celebrating Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month at New Relic
As Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month comes to an end, it is a time for us to reflect on the profound contributions this vibrant community has made to our global culture. The theme for this year, "Prosperity. Power. Progress," encapsulates the community’s remarkable journey and emphasizes the importance of embracing these values as we move forward together.
Prosperity: Embracing economic empowerment
One of the cornerstones of Latinx and Hispanic heritage is the spirit of resilience and entrepreneurship. From small family businesses to multinational corporations, Hispanic and Latinx people have played a vital role shaping the American economy. This month, we celebrated the achievements of Latinx and Hispanic entrepreneurs, innovators, and business leaders who have not only achieved prosperity themselves, but also paved the way for future generations.
To truly promote prosperity, it's important that we foster an environment where everyone has equal access to opportunities. We hosted a session that educated Relics about the importance of generational wealth, how it happens, and how the racial wealth gap makes it difficult for some communities, specifically Latinx people, to achieve generational wealth. Organizations committed to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) are actively working to level the playing field, providing education and practical steps that companies and individuals can do to support communities of color and underrepresented communities.
Power: Amplifying Voices and Representation
Power comes not just from influence, but from the collective strength of diverse voices. Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month offers us the perfect opportunity to amplify the stories, struggles, and achievements of Latinx and Hispanic people who have made a lasting impact. By sharing these narratives, we showcase the depth of talent and resilience within the community, inspiring the next generation to dream big.
To harness the power of diversity and representation, organizations can work towards creating inclusive spaces where Latinx and Hispanic voices are heard and valued. We were excited to harness the power in storytelling by hearing the unique stories of four Relics. This session was a truly moving experience that highlights the magic that can happen when people feel safe enough to share their authentic stories.
Progress: Taking Time to Celebrate
Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to reflect on the progress that has been made, while also recognizing the work that lies ahead. The journey towards a more inclusive society requires continuous efforts to break down barriers and build bridges between cultures. By acknowledging the diverse histories and experiences within the Latinx and Hispanic community, we move forward towards a future that is rooted in understanding and unity.
We spent time this month celebrating the culture and the work that has been done. From social events where we learned to make Mexican salsa, to coffee chats we made space to celebrate one another and Latinx and Hispanic culture. It was truly great to celebrate all month long with our Relics.
As we reflect on the theme of "Prosperity. Power. Progress," let's remember that diversity, equity, and inclusion are not merely buzzwords but essential principles that drive us towards a better future. By celebrating the achievements of the Latinx and Hispanic community, committing to providing equal opportunities, amplifying voices, and working together to address challenges, we can truly honor the heritage while shaping a world that values the richness of every individual's identity. Together, let's ensure that prosperity, power, and progress are accessible to all, regardless of their background.
