In addition to counting and timing calls made to the database, New Relic automatically captures slow queries and reports the underlying database's explain plans. This makes it easy to find a missing index and see improvements it makes. We also have full support for any database adapter that is DBAPI2 compliant.
Exception logging is provided for uncaught exceptions which would otherwise generate 500 responses from the framework. New Relic will automatically intercept them and report those exceptions along with their stack traces. This functionality makes it easy to fix errors that might otherwise go unnoticed in production.
