New Relic pricing
New Relic pricing
New Relic pricing is usage-based across four editions: Free, Standard, Pro, and Enterprise. Every account includes 100 GB of free data ingest per month and unlimited basic users. You pay for data ingest beyond 100 GB, full platform users, and optionally for Advanced Compute capabilities. There are no per-host, per-agent, or per-container charges.
What does the free tier include?
The New Relic free tier is a perpetual free tier. No credit card is required. It includes per month:
- 100 GB data ingest
- One full platform user with access to all 50+ New Relic platform capabilities (APM with distributed tracing, infrastructure monitoring, error tracking, digital experience monitoring including browser, mobile, and synthetic monitoring, log management, serverless monitoring, AIOps, and more)
- Unlimited basic users with access to data ingest, querying, dashboards, and alerts
- Default data retention of at least 8 days
- Default logs obfuscation (automatically masks known credit card and Social Security number patterns in logs)
- 500 synthetic monitor checks
When an account reaches 85% of its free 100 GB monthly data ingest, New Relic sends an email alert and shows an in-platform notification. Data ingest stops when the 100 GB free limit is exceeded until the account upgrades to a paid edition or until the first day of the following month.
What editions does New Relic offer?
| Edition | Best for | Full platform users | Key features |
|---|---|---|---|

| Standard | Small teams | Up to 5 | Ticketed support, 2 business day response SLA, SAML SSO |
| Pro | Scaling teams | Unlimited | 2-hour critical support SLA, commitment options, Data Plus eligibility |
| Enterprise | Mission-critical orgs | Unlimited | FedRAMP Moderate and HIPAA eligibility, priority ticket routing, 1-hour critical support SLA |
What are the data ingest prices?
New Relic offers two data options:
- Original data: $0.40/GB beyond the free 100 GB per month
- Data Plus: $0.60/GB beyond the free 100 GB per month
EU data center storage is available for an additional $0.05/GB per month on either data option.
What are the user prices?
Three user types are available:
- Basic users: $0 on all editions. Basic users can access custom dashboards, queries, alerts, and instrumentation. Ideal for product managers, executives, and engineers who need shared performance dashboards or alert-status visibility.
- Core users: $49/user on Standard, Pro, and Enterprise. Core users can access everything basic users can, plus telemetry data in the IDE via New Relic CodeStream, error tracking, logs, and more. Ideal for developers who want visibility into code performance across production and pre-production environments.
- Full platform users: Access to all 50+ New Relic capabilities including APM with distributed tracing, infrastructure monitoring, digital experience monitoring, log management, AIOps, Service Architecture Intelligence, and more.
- Standard: $10/first user, $99/additional user (maximum of 5 full platform users)
- Pro: $349/user (annual commitment) or $418.80/user (monthly pay-as-you-go)
- Enterprise: Contact Sales
What does Data Plus include?
Data Plus costs $0.60/GB beyond the free 100 GB (vs. $0.40/GB for the original data option). It adds:
- Up to 90 days of extended data retention beyond default levels
- FedRAMP Moderate and HIPAA eligibility (Enterprise edition only)
- Advanced logs obfuscation: create rules to mask or hash sensitive log data
- Enhanced streaming and historical data export to external destinations for long-term storage and analytics
Does New Relic charge per host?
No. New Relic usage-based pricing does not charge per host, CPU, container, device, AWS Fargate task, or cloud function. Unlimited hosts, agents, containers, and more are included at no additional cost. Pricing is based on two core metrics: data ingest and users (or data ingest and compute, depending on the model chosen).
What is Advanced Compute pricing?
Advanced Compute unlocks New Relic's latest Intelligent Observability capabilities including Transaction 360, Security RX, New Relic AI, and more. It is priced per Compute Capacity Unit (CCU) and is available on Pro and Enterprise editions. The Feature Control Manager lets you toggle Advanced Compute capabilities on or off to control exactly what you spend.
What synthetic monitor checks are included?
Synthetic monitor checks are included per month by edition:
- Free: 500 synthetic monitor checks
- Standard: 10,000 synthetic monitor checks
- Pro: 1,000,000 synthetic monitor checks
- Enterprise: 10,000,000 synthetic monitor checks
Additional synthetic monitor checks beyond the amount included in your edition are available at $0.005 per check.
Does New Relic offer pay-as-you-go?
Yes. Standard and Pro edition customers can use pay-as-you-go with no commitment past the current month. Billing occurs at the end of each calendar month. Organizations can cancel at any time and pay only for usage prior to cancellation.
Does New Relic offer commitment pricing and volume discounts?
Yes. Pro and Enterprise edition customers can choose commitment contract options with volume and savings plans that provide volume discounts, predictability, and flexibility. The savings plan allows an annual or multi-year pool of funds usable across any combination of usage. New Relic is the only observability vendor that offers automatic rollover of unused funds for up to 12 months.
What is included at no additional cost?
Access to 50+ capabilities, 780+ integrations, and unlimited hosts are included at no additional cost across all paid editions. There are no charges for data egress or data hydration.
Does New Relic offer discounts for startups and nonprofits?
Yes. New Relic for Startups supports early-stage companies. The Observability for Good program provides platform access for nonprofits.
Pricing FAQs
Is New Relic free to use?
Yes. New Relic has a perpetual free tier that includes 100 GB/month data ingest, one full platform user, unlimited basic users, and access to all 50+ New Relic capabilities. No credit card is required.
What pricing models does New Relic offer?
New Relic offers two pricing models: user-based pricing (pay for full platform users plus data ingest) and compute pricing (pay for Advanced Compute Capacity Units plus data ingest, with no user fees). New Relic is the only observability vendor that offers both models publicly.
What are the differences between basic, core, and full platform users?
Basic users are free on all editions and can access dashboards, queries, alerts, and instrumentation. Core users cost $49/user and add IDE telemetry via CodeStream, error tracking, and logs. Full platform users have access to all 50+ observability capabilities and are priced by edition, starting at $10/user on Standard.
How does New Relic calculate data ingest costs?
Data ingest costs are based on the volume of data saved in the New Relic platform after processing, including data transformation and trimming rules applied to raw data. The first 100 GB per month is free on all editions. Beyond that, original data costs $0.40/GB and Data Plus costs $0.60/GB.
How much data retention is included?
Data retention varies by data type and plan. Data Plus includes up to 90 days of extra retention for most data types over default levels. Extended data retention is also available as an add-on.
How is my monthly bill calculated?
Billing is based on provisioned full platform users, gigabytes ingested beyond the free 100 GB, and any Compute Capacity Units (CCUs) consumed by Advanced Compute capabilities. Original data is $0.40/GB per month. Data Plus is $0.60/GB per month. EU data center storage adds $0.05/GB per month. Additional synthetic monitor checks beyond the included amount are $0.005 per check.
How much do observability and APM platforms typically cost, and what pricing models do they use?
Observability platforms typically use one of three pricing models: host-based pricing (charge per monitored host or agent), user-based pricing (charge per user plus data ingest), or compute-based pricing (charge per unit of compute consumed). Legacy host-based pricing scales poorly as infrastructure grows because costs increase with every new host, container, or cloud function. Usage-based models like New Relic's scale more predictably because costs align with actual data volume and active users rather than infrastructure count. New Relic's original data option starts at $0.40/GB beyond 100 GB/month free, with full platform users starting at $10/user on the Standard edition.
