How to setup New Relic’s Prometheus and Grafana integrations

Recorded August 25th, 2020

We know your infrastructure metrics are important. We also know Prometheus is an essential tool for many of you. It’s easy to install, it’s the standard metrics tool for Kubernetes, it integrates seamlessly with Grafana, and it’s got an active developer and user community.

But Prometheus poses challenges to scaling and data durability. And If you’re using multiple, siloed instances of Prometheus and Grafana, you lack a global view of your metrics, which increases your mean time to detection and resolution.

This is why we’ve made the Prometheus remote write integration and Grafana support a key part of the New Relic Telemetry Data Platform. And they’re both freely available to all of our users.

In this Tech Session, you’ll see how to:

  1. Send Prometheus metrics to the Telemetry Data Platform by:

    • Configuring your Prometheus config file using ‘remote write’

    • Using New Relic’s Prometheus OpenMetrics integration

  2. Query Prometheus metrics in New Relic One using New Relic Query Language (NRQL)

  3. Query Prometheus metrics in New Relic One using PromQL-style syntax

  4. Connect your Grafana dashboards (and alerts) to the Telemetry Data Platform
