BlazeMeter Wins New Business with Multi-Level New Relic Partnership

BlazeMeter provides performance testing as a service. The company enables engineers to run load tests on any mobile app, website, or API, simulating up to one million users on a developer-friendly self-service platform.

“Whenever we mention that BlazeMeter has an out of the box integration with New Relic, prospects almost always say, ‘That’s exactly what I’m looking for.’”

Adding value by integrating with a comprehensive monitoring solution

For the BlazeMeter team, testing and monitoring go hand in hand. “Testing makes it easy to trigger a symptom, but you need monitoring to identify the problem in the first place,” says Alon Girmonsky, founder and CEO at BlazeMeter. “That’s why it’s essential for us to integrate with a first-rate APM solution.”

Optimizing the customer experience with three levels of partnership

Today, BlazeMeter partners with New Relic on three levels. As a Connect partner, the company enables all of its customers to view their New Relic application performance data on their BlazeMeter dashboard. Similarly, a Platform partnership enables BlazeMeter to make its data available within the New Relic dashboard through an easy to use and intuitive plugin. This allows users to easily monitor end-user experience and application system KPIs while load testing. Most recently, a brand-new Insights partnership is a compelling addition to the BlazeMeter product, giving its customers access to a real-time analytics platform that generates actionable information from billions of data points.

“BlazeMeter provides an out-of-the-box dashboard for any performance test KPIs — response time, latency throughput, bandwidth, error ratio, you name it,” says Girmonsky. “With New Relic Insights, we can make that dashboard dynamic. In other words, once the test is completed, a user can run a query, find any results that haven’t been generated automatically, and visualize their findings within a single dashboard.”

Meanwhile, customers can access and correlate all of that data within the New Relic interface by using the BlazeMeter plugin. “Creating our plugin was really very easy,” says Girmonsky. “We used APIs provided by New Relic to ensure a completely seamless experience from the user’s perspective. It took us about a week to get the plugin exactly right—a very small time investment when you consider how much value this brings to our customers.”

As more customers confront the challenges inherent in big data, New Relic Insights will become even more critical to BlazeMeter’s success. “Every test generates approximately one terabyte of data,” says Girmonsky. “You need a first-rate BI tool like New Relic to manage that influx of information, issuing simple queries in natural language for actionable results.”

Extending the BlazeMeter value proposition— and growing the business

The partnership with New Relic makes it much easier for BlazeMeter to win new business. When prospects see how seamlessly the two technologies work together, they see that as an extension of both companies’ value propositions. “We have a lot of joint customers, including Ticketfly and Tableau Software,” says Girmonsky. “Whenever we mention that BlazeMeter has an out-of-the-box integration with New Relic, prospects almost always say, ‘That’s exactly what I’m looking for.’”

For many customers, the integration between BlazeMeter and New Relic enables a closer collaboration between development and operations teams. “BlazeMeter is aimed primarily at developers, whereas operations folks often gravitate naturally toward New Relic,” says Girmonsky. “With this two-way integration, our customers can take another big step toward adopting a DevOps model in their organizations.”

Going forward, Girmonsky hopes for an even tighter integration between the two companies. “I think BlazeMeter and New Relic approach a very similar audience—an audience that likes to do things on its own, in a simple and frictionless way,” he says. “It’s not just about bestof-breed tools. It’s about best-of-integration. And the more we expand the capabilities of both BlazeMeter and New Relic, the more value we’ll continue to provide.”
